Website on abolition of Death Penalty

Link:http://adityasatish.weebly.com/about.html

Rationale

I made this website because I felt like something had to be done to stop this atrocious violation of human rights in the name of law. I attached a picture of a man’s hands gripping the prison cell and this was to represent the man’s fear of death and to take people realise committing a crime to kill a killer doesn’t stop us from turning into killers. I also had a picture taken from Amnesty of a poster with a picture of man with his mouth taped and his eyes blindfolded. This was to represent the people who even though know the truth they try not to see it and they don’t raise their voice against the crime committed in the name of law.

Infographic on Death Penalty and why it should be abolished

English - Death Penalty-3 Rationale- I made this infographic on death penalty because I feel death penalty should be abolished as it violates the human rights. The reason why i don’t have a lot of text in the first page is because this infographic is meant for students/teenagers and I don’t think throwing a block of text and the start would be appealing to them. Hence I added some interesting map/picture to appeal. Also I had a bit of reasoning in the 2nd block just to make sure they know what my opinion is and hopefully it will convince them or at least give them more information on the cons on death penalty . My last block has some big names like Marting Luther King Jr and also John Grisham, to make this more appealing I added some more reasoning as to why they said that and what they think about death penalty. (They = the big names). Hence this is why I feel my inforgraphic would be appealing to my selected audience.

Death Penalty Poster

UntitledsdgsdgsdI made this poster because I feel posters with a lot of words never convey messages properly and with this poster I intend to let people think for themself by just giving a cause saying Death Penalty should be abolished. This lets people come up with their own reasons and to help them I gave one reason saying “it makes us all into killers” this means when you kill a murderer , you are no different than him. This is one of the main reasons why I feel death penalty should be abolished , since fighting fire with fire doesn’t work and to prove murder is wrong you can’t murder the murderer. I chose this picture because it shows a dead man hanging on a tree and this is meant to kinda show how sad it is when you kill someone innocent because in death penalty there have been a lot of cases of executing the innocent person and this is meant to represent that.

Reflection #5

In this reflection, I’m going to discuss about advantages and disadvantages of various interactions. Starting out with Private reading. When doing private reading, there are some advantages but also disadvantages. The advantages are that you can read it at your pace and re-read the play anytime you want but the disadvantages are that you wont have anyone to share your opinions or discuss with , when reading all by yourself. This could lead to doubts and confusion until you discuss it with someone , like while reading the play I wasn’t sure what kind of person Nat exactly was, as in if he was really emotional or if he was kinda cold who doesn’t show emotions a lot but after discussing it with my friends at class I found out he was really emotional.

The other part is the Powerpoint presentation we need for the summary and research, this had few advantages but only some disadvantages, first it encourages you to go in detail which means since you are presenting the power point to the whole class you know it cant be incomplete and that makes you want to complete it, hence  encouraging you to complete your powerpoint. The other advantage is it helps you learn about other’s opinion and discuss among the group. This means when you make your presentation you learn about everyone’s opinion in your group which helps you improve your understanding of the play, this is kinda similar to the disadvantage of private reading , as I mentioned I found out more about Nat when we discussed in the group for our presentation rather than learning more about him during private reading and the disadvantage is that it encourages you to only look at some specific areas and not every thing, for example in the presentation we only looked at few scenes and not the whole scene this would have lead to lesser understanding of the other scene as we would be too busy trying to understand just few scenes. Another example is when I was in charge of doing the slides for the Theme, while doing this and researching I found out how much grief is a part of the book, as in you need to understand how much grief there is and why the characters experience it , in order for you to understand the play more. I learnt that Nat experiences a lot of Grief as he sees his father suicide and can’t do anything to help him also his mother dies of cancer which causes him more grief. I learnt all this while doing my powerpoint presentation , hence this was really helpful for me.

The third part is the Dramatic Reading and in this we did an actual dramatic reading of our specific scenes. The advantages are that it helps us understand the character more as we need to sound like them and speak like them, and to know that we have to research more about the character which in turn increases our understanding of the character and when we understand the character we know when they use different tones and emotions. Hence this is really a great advantage of dramatic reading. The disadvantage is that since all of us have different ideas it means different interpretations might be misleading , which means one group might make Nat sound a bit feminine and the other group might make him seem like someone who doesn’t show a lot of emotions. Hence this could be misleading and also confusing.

The next one is the Ensemble Rehearsal , these rehearsals are very important and play a major role in how we perform for the main drama play and it helps us know more about the character and we get to actually learn our lines for the first time which makes us understand the play more as when we learn the lines we get to know more about the surroundings , for example in our scene we had to at the bear fighting through the peephole this made us know there were a lot of peepholes in the area at that time , hence making us know more about the surrounding. The disadvantage is that it might cause arguments because not everyone in the group might agree with you and this might be bad for your group.

The last but not the least is watching a presentation , this is basically what it sounds like. Watch others present, this has quite some advantages and shares a disadvantage with the other parts. The advantage is that you get to know what others think about the play and you get it watch it from a different perspective , this will broaden your knowledge as you get to see the whole play from a different perspective and this helps you learn a lot more about the characters , setting , their time and much more. But the disadvantage is that it might confuse you quite a bit since every time you see a group , they might be having the same characters but the way they portray the character might be really different.

In conclusion, I think the most helpful interaction for me was the private reading , since I like being able to read and re-read at my own place and own method compared to other methods where I had to work in a group and also work a lot slower than my own pace as our group’s members would have really different pace compared to mine. Also organising group meetings is really hard and requires a lot of time to organise where as private reading doesn’t need any time to organise and all it requires is for you to pick up the playbook and read it. Hence i felt private reading was the most helpful for me, and the least helpful for me was the dramatic reading as it caused me to get confused because every group had a different interpretation and different opinions of the characters and most of them were really different from each other. Hence trying to understand all of them resulted in me getting confused.

Reflection #4

A) What are the benefits of working as an ensemble? What are the difficulties and challenges?

By working as an ensemble we can learn a lot more about how it was like to perform during Shakespeare’s time and also we can learn more by sharing our opinions and thoughts about the play and communicating with others, also getting people’s opinion on your performance before actually performing is helpful too. The challenges are it might be tough to work together with people you don’t know at the beginning and also other people might have different views or ideas about the play compared to you which may lead to conflict.

B) What have I learned about the character of Nat and Will (Shakespeare) as members of an ensemble? What have I learned about the setting of the play (inside a theatre, characters are rehearsing)?

I have learn’t a lot about Nat and Will. I learnt that the relationship they share is like a father-son and also that in the Ensemble Will appreciates and acknowledges Nat’s skills in acting and that Nat respects Will a lot for taking good care of the company and just respects Will in general. I also learn’t a lot about the setting of the play inside the theatre , such as inside the theatre when it rains , there is a roof to protect the actors but there is no rain protection for the audience and also the cheaper seats were at the bottom and closer to the play compared to the expensive seats which were at top. Also when the actors rehearsed at the start they played a game to warm up and get to know each other, also the men had to play the roles of female characters and when they did that they had to make sure their voice was like that of a female.

C)How can I improve our performance as an ensemble?

As an ensemble, we can improve our performance by getting to know each other and instead of just learning the lines and acting a character, we must become the character and automatically feel like the character. This will help us greatly in making sure we don’t mess up our lines. Also IF we forget our lines we must make sure to not whisper and tell the person who forgot the line that they forgot or tell them what to say because this makes it look unprofessional. Instead we must just continue our lines and pretend like it never happened. Also making sure we meet more often and practice A LOT more will ensure our performance being much much better.

Reflection #3

a. What have I learned about the character, plot and setting (scene) after the dramatic reading and rehearsals?

I’ve learn’t mostly about how the character’s accents are and also their personal emotions/personality because of how they sound, such as Burbage is a personal fan favorite and this is known also because of how he takes pride in his work and his costume. This shows he has pride in himself.

b. What have I learned about acting and producing a Shakespearean play after doing the dramatic reading and rehearsals?

I’ve learn’t your actions are really important such as eye contact , hand movements and body movements. This is because we can learn a lot about a character just by looking at a person’s movements and also I’ve learn’t that in shakespeare’s plays Soliloquies are really common, hence executing Soliloquies properly is really important and also I’ve learnt that you need to know to make your voice pitch isnt really different than how its meant to be like if you are playing the role of a girl then your voice should resemble that of a girl or at least close to.

c. How can I improve our dramatization of the play?

I can improve our dramatization of the play by making sure it looks like we are the actual characters and not that its like watching a play, which means we should act like the actors know each other really well and make sure we just dont memorize the lines but learn them , so that it looks realistic. Also we should always be doing something or acting something and never stay still.

Reflection #2

In this play there were a lot of characters I felt a strong connection to but the main being Burbage because of the way he cares for people but doesn’t exactly shows it directly and instead hints at stuffs, also the way he uses humor and gets serious at the right time is also someone I feel I can relate to and last but not the least I feel Richard Burbage changing the topic at specific time when he doesn’t feel like talking about it is really similar to me. Hence I relate to Burbage the most in the play, for example in the scene 3 act 2 Burbage asks Nat to “Go find thy supper boy” which shows us that even though his words don’t show as much affection as Will’s does but he still cares for Nat a lot and wants him to feel welcome and happy.

During the planning stage , a lot of details have become more clear to me mainly the right tone to use when speaking and the way the characters convey their feelings. The other thing that became clear to me was how Burbage cared of Nat and how Nat really wanted to stay in the company and tried to make people bias towards him by helping them and serving them stuff.

I have discovered some important things in the play such as how hard the actors have had to work to make a good play like they had to take the role of a female, make sure their voice doesnt too weird when playing the role of a female person. Also they had to practice stunts even if they were just actors and also learn stuff like dance, singing etc. Since they couldn’t add stuff or edit stuff like how we do now. This has helped me appreciate the play more.

Reflection Number 1.

The past 3 days I learned a lot about the play and the fact that people may have different views on the play.

1) From watching the other groups present I understand how important the relationship between Will and Nat is and also I understood a lot about the poem’s meaning that was given to Nat by Will, like how if you love someone the love will always be there even if they die and other things similar to that as in the poem Will clearly explains that “love is not love that alters when its alteration finds ” this means. Also from watching other groups present I learn’t about how sad Nat actually is deep inside and how emotional he is.

2) Our group researched about Nat’s sorrow and grief and also other things like how Nat’s aunt helped Nat overcome or tried to overcome his sorrow by making sure he has something to look forward to and something like a hobby which can take his mind off his father’s death. From this we learnt that Nat’s aunt really cares for Nat and that she tried every way possible to take his mind off his father’s death

3) I think Nat’s group would have encountered a lot of difficulties such as practicing to perform the stunts and work together with new people , this can be seen as Nat first was bullyed and tried to get other’s attention and make them like him so he gets to stay with the company. This shows that there were troubles accepting new people. The difficulties that I think our group would experience is would mainly be learning the lines and also the singing part as its kinda hard to learn the lines, and also we wouldn’t have a lot of time to practice since all of us are really busy and have only one day in common where we are free to meet and practice after school.

Themes of the book: King of the Shadows

Grief – Grief is one of the main themes of the book as seen through the main character, Nat. Nat is an orphan who is being raised by his aunt. Nat’s mother died of cancer, and shortly after, his father commits suicide out of grief. Nat finds his father’s body lying in a pool of blood, and has the image permanently ingrained in his memory. Left parentless, he moves in with his aunt. Nat and his aunt do not discuss the death of his parents, denying Nat the ability to grieve and move forward. At the recommendation of his aunt, Nat begins to act in community plays as a distraction from his sadness. The other moment when Nat experiences grief is when he first travels back to the past and sees all the heads, this shocks him and later when he practices for his play together with William Shakespeare he feels grief because William Shakespeare didn’t want him to exit the play like how he used to do in his present time period.

Difference between two contexts – the other main theme of the book is the difference between the two contexts, as seen throughout the book. The book focuses mainly on time travel from Nat’s perspective, through Nat we see him travel back 400 years to the year 1599, when the Globe theatre was first built and there he meets his idol William Shakespeare. They become really good friends almost like Father-Son, this was a development since when he was in his original time frame he just knew William Shakespeare was a great man and was his idol after he meets Will , he personally gets to know him and Will invites him to stay over at his place and this results in them growing more closer and Nat being more serious about his play since he doesn’t want to disappoint his father-figure. This causes him sadness when he goes back to his own time and is then surprised to find out that Shakespeare hadn’t forgotten about him even after he went back to his own time , this can be known as Shakespeare had written one last play about Nat.

New Year Reflection

My year 2014 was really great , I achieved a lot in my English class such as “did not get any grade below 4” , “improved my essay writing a lot” and “never got a homework slip in English”

I had few challenges such as Presentation skills and deadline for SA;s

My goal for 2015 in my English class is to get above 5’s only because I feel the need to improve since the last semester.
